While you hold your lover extra EXTRA tight this month, press play on the sweetest love songs that made generations fall in love.
I’m calling on all my lovebirds for this month’s playlist. The second you hit play, you’re going to want to grab your person, pull them a little closer, and remind them exactly why it was always meant to be. Whether it’s an intimate night in after the Valentine’s Day buzz or just your way of keeping that love energy alive, this one’s for you.
Below are 10 songs that ooze affection and appreciation for your person, pulling from every era—I’m talking the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and yes, the 2010s too. Take a trip through the decades of love.
“My Cherie Amore”- Stevie Wonder
His voice carries a story- a love story at that. In 1969, the legendary Stevie Wonder dedicated this song to a prior lover while enrolled as a student at the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing, Michigan. After parting ways, Wonder couldn’t help but turn a broken heart into a ballad. As you listen to the lyrics, he expresses his yearning to see her face someday, hoping to share another moment in time, as he is the only girl his heart beats for.
“Thinking of You”- Sister Sledge
“Thinking of You” goes down as one of the funkiest love songs I know. Produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the track instantly pulls you in with its guitar riffs and steady bassline. Performed by Sister Sledge, best known for “We Are Family,” the quartet truly does the song justice. Following its 1984 release, it climbed to No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart, adding to the group’s legacy of selling over 20 million records worldwide.
“Lady” – D’Angelo
A neo-soul classic that never leaves my rotation. The late, great D’Angelo, alongside producer Raphael Saadiq, created a timeless track about that one special woman. It’s the kind of song that lingers—smooth, catchy, and stuck in your head for days. The lyrics are simple, stretching across six minutes of him claiming his lady, unbothered by the world watching. And somehow, every time I hear it, it makes me feel like I’m the only girl in the room.
“Beautiful”- Tweet
Imagine a love so captivating it leaves you speechless. On this 2002 track, Tweet describes a kind of pure, refreshing love she’s never felt before. The buildup to the bridge—those layered harmonies—has to be my favorite part. It feels like she’s floating, reaching a kind of euphoria just from thinking about her lover.
