Sweater Weather Playlist: Seven Soulful R&B Songs For The Season

Here are some tunes to make you feel cozy as it’s time to bundle up.

Nothing feels better than playing some R&B on a chilly day. Here is a compilation from some of YR Media’s favorites, including Sza, Dijon, and more, to warm you up.

Sza – “2 AM”

Sampling “Come and See Me” by Partynextdoor, Sza’s version might be arguably better. From her deluxe album “Ctrl,” Sza samples his track in a higher octave, complementing her soulful tone. Although the chorus of both songs aligns, the Grammy award winner sneaks in an unreleased song till the very end that will hopefully be on her next long-awaited album.

Dijon – “Big Mike’s”

Dijon’s voice is one of a kind and will leave you in awe. His song “Big Mike’s” is the first track of his latest album “Absolutely” which will capture your first play. The Maryland musician talks about all the little things he likes about his partner as his raspy voice pairs perfectly with his self-produced acoustics.

Orion Sun – “Antidote”

Multi-instrumentalist, Orion Sun, gives you that nostalgic and contemporary feel with the combination of subtle vinyl crackles and adlibs over her compelling vocals on this track. She reels you in by stalling when the beat drops for a dramatic effect, enhancing her dreamy voice and catchy chorus.

Brent Faiyaz – “Missin Out”

Off of his first debut album, Sonder Son, Brent Faiyaz shows off his pipes with melodic runs on the song “Missin Out.” The somber instrumentals are the recipe for a modern-day blues as Brent entices his significant other to make plans with him before the fame kicks in, but it might be too late. The timeless love story is reminiscent of some soothing 90s R&B.

Smino – “Blu Billy”

Smino’s layered wordplay and variation in his intonation make him unique. This track features enriching back-up vocals and music production by Monte Booker and Charlie Myles, which is a formula for a classic.

Cleo Sol – “When I’m in Your Arms”

Cleo Sol yearns for security and reassurance from her lover through the ethereal symphonies of strings and drums on her song “When I’m in Your Arms”. Her airy voice is calming, and the tuneful bridge will undoubtedly be stuck in your head.

Radiant Children – “Poke Bowl”

With a groovy baseline and angelic keys, “Poke Bowl” is a must on your playlist. The London group Radiant Children perfectly composed the track with wholesome vocals from lead singer Fabienne Holloway, with heavy jazz influences.
