For some of us … we celebrate Black history all year round.

There’s a special type of glow The Black community embodies once it’s February. Over these past 28 days, some of our favorite Black public figures have exuded that glow and continue to remain thriving. From Pharrell to Burna Boy, here are five moments you may have missed this month where Black people continue to be nothing but excellent. 

Pharrell Williams x Louis Vuttion Creative Director

Early this month Luxury brand Louis Vuitton announced the enduring partnership with 2000s icon Pharrell Williams as the creative director in menswear. Williams has always been recognized as a pioneer and trendsetter in the fashion industry, having partnered with LxV previously in 2003 and 2004, his first collection is already highly anticipated and expected to be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. 

“His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter,” says Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO.

Afro Beats Took Over NBA’s All-Star Weekend

Tem Burna and Rema to perform at 72nd NBA All Star game halftime show

What a time to be African! The 72nd NBA All Star game halftime show made history putting a spotlight on Nigeria having Grammy award-winning Burna Boy, Oscar-nominated Terms, and singer Rema perform. The Afrobeats-themed show proves how the genre is steadily becoming mainstream and is being appreciated more and more by the culture. 

Brehanna Daniels Returns to the Tracks

This month Brehanna Daniels had her first NASCAR race since her knee injury early last year. At only 23 years old Daniel became the first African American woman to be a part of a NASCAR crew member. Making her debut at the 2017 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, she’s been a part of the racing team since and was acknowledged for her achievements in 2020 at the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Awards. The racing organization welcomes her back as she prepares for the rest of the season.

Viola Davis Reaches EGOT Status

Only 18 people have been able to withhold EGOT status including the captivating Viola Davis. This honor means that she has at least one of each; an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. At the Grammy’s earlier this month, she received a Grammy for narrating her audiobook, “Finding Me,” a life memoir, completing the last element to hold the impressive title. 

Brittany’s Griner Takes the Stage

After being detained abroad for the majority of 2022, WNBA player Britney Griner returns to the spotlight. Griner and she took the stage together at the 54th NAACP Award show as the first appearance back and took the time to thank friends and family who showed support and love through her unfortunate journey. Last week she announced her return to the court will be as soon as May of this year playing for her previous team, Phoenix Mercury.
