As we close this last week of February off, I think it’s beyond proper to say I hope everyone had a Happy Black History Month! It was short and sweet but what’s new? My biggest takeaway these past weeks, is that Black Women are simply, the shit. Yes, they do amazing things all year round, but if you missed out on what’s been happening this month, from Issa Rae to Tems, here are 5 moments Black women took my breath away.
Issa Rae & Tems Join Ownership of San Diego FC
Earlier this month, the soccer sport was introduced to a dynamic they never knew they needed. Director/ producer Issa Rae, and Nigerian Grammy award winner Tems became ownership club partners with San Diego FC. With Rae’s passion for uplifting diverse voices and Tems’ ability to break barriers through diasporas, they found SDFC to be a new home away from that which fits their mission. Both are joining the club under the Pave investments wing, allowing them to build upon and provide capital, access, and strategy to those creating opportunities to support and develop African Talent globally.
Kamala Harris Honored at the NAACP Awards
Former Vice President Kamala Harris received the prestigious chairman’s prize at this year’s NAACP awards. With Project 2025 currently being implemented, Harris took the stage with a reality-check of a message.
“While we have no illusions about what we are up against in this chapter in our American story, this chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the oval office nor by the wealthiest among us…The American story will be written by you. Written by us. By the people.”
Doechii Wins Grammy Best Rap Album of the Year
Doechii took home Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards for “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” Following in the footsteps of Cardi B and Lauryn Hill, the Floridian lyricist became the third Black woman to win the category. As Doechii received her award from Cardi B, who took home the titles for Invasion of Privacy in 2019, the TDE talent basked in her moment, to affirm all of the black girls tuning in.
” [to] every Black girl out there. You’re exactly who you need to be, so be right where you are and I am a testimony.”
Beyonce Became the First Black Woman to Win Country Album of the Year
The Bee-hive is Buzzin! After being criticized for “Cowboy Carter” and her ability to ebb and flow through genres, Beyonce won Best Country Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The pure shock on her as she gained her new accolade made the moment even more genuine. She described the milestone as “a long time coming,” referencing her nomination journey in the category since 2010 for “I Am…Sasha Fierce.” The room delivered a standing ovation as she made history… once again.
Keke Palmer Wins Entertainer of the Year at the NAACP Awards
The multifaceted Keke Palmer won the entertainer of the year at the 56th annual NAACP Awards. It was a full circle moment for not only recognizing her performance in her latest project “One of Those Days,” which now has a 95% rating on rotten tomatoes, but for her impressive endurance in the industry since her first on-screen debut for “ Akeelah and the Bee.” She’s entertained us for over a decade, and is still in her prime!
